Yagami Hayate (八神はやて) is a mage, the last Queen of the Night Sky[1] and the founder of Riot Force 6. She's the "mother" to the Wolkenritter[1], the late Reinforce and her current unison device Reinforce II.

Personality

Hayate is a bright, kind and cheerful person with a strong sense of responsibility. Her hobbies involve cooking and reading.[2] When speaking Japanese, Hayate speaks with a Kansai accent.[1][2] She's admitted that she can't deny a request if it's made by a "good girl", as she takes on a motherly role by nature.[3]

Background

Hayate was hospitalized at an early age due to suffering paralysis in both her legs.[2] Having lost both her parents when she was too young to remember,[2] she was cared for by hospital staff and received financial support from a "distant relative". On the night of her ninth birthday, she was chosen by the Tome of the Night Sky to be its new owner[4], sending her the four Wolkenritter to serve as her knights.[5]

As Hayate's condition grew worse, the Wolkenritter took to filling the Tome of the Night Sky's pages hoping that the power from the tome would save her.[5] However, the result was Hayate falling into a slumber within the tome itself.[6] Upon waking up, she learned that her paralysis was due to the tome's curse eating at her body and that the soul within the tome wanted to give her a peaceful passing. Hayate, feeling sympathy for the tome's soul, decided to take up her chosen role as Queen of the Night Sky and bestowed upon the soul a name, Reinforce, the blessing wind.[7]

After ending the tome's curse with the help of Reinforce, the Wolkenritter, Takamachi Nanoha and Fate T. Harlaown, Hayate's body started healing. But in order to prevent the curse from returning in the future, Reinforce sacrificed her life, asking Hayate to pass on her name to the one who would assist her in the future. Hayate began studying magic more throughly and begun her training to become a commanding officer for TSAB[8] shortly thereafter, wanting to grow into a strong mage who can protect everyone.

Fulfilling her promise to the first Reinforce, she studies the magic of Ancient Belka and unison devices[9] and successfully conjures a successor from the Tome of the Azure Sky in spring of 0067, Reinforce II.[10] In summer of the same year, Hayate was attacked by Iris and Kyrie Florian who proceeded to steal the Tome of the Night Sky. Using data recorded from Hayate, a copy of her body was used as a vessel for Dearche, a soul who had been trapped in the tome. Hayate was ultimately forced to fight Dearche and the rest of the Materials over Uminari City together with her friends.[11]

After graduating middle school in 0071, Hayate moved from Earth to the world of Midchilda to continue her training and studies.[12] Hayate would spend the next four years working to start her own task force focusing on cases involving Lost Logia within TSAB Ground Forces, leading to the formation of Riot Force 6 in 0075.[13] After serving as commander of Riot Force 6 for one year, the task force was disbanded following the conclusion of the JS Incident.[14]

As the matriarch of the Yagami household, Hayate makes sure that the Wolkenritter, Reinforce II and Agito are able to live normal lives outside of their respective TSAB roles, leading to the formation of the Yagami Dojo, where children can learn Strike Arts.[3] Though Hayate herself does not teach Strike Arts, she has helped develop intelligent devices for several Strike Arts athletes, including Einhard Stratos's Asteion[15] and Fuuka Reventon's Huracan.[16].
